Is preschool and pre-k the same thing?

Often, the terms preschool and pre-k are using interchangeably. A reason is probably either of the two sets before a child enters kindergarten.

Purpose and relation

To understand the difference between preschool and pre-k: it is better to point out their purposes and relations to kindergarten.

Law or custom, the recommended age to do schooling is five years old. However, it would be difficult for children at this age that one day they need to be away from their parents or be in school to do activities. They also need to adjust to the more structured setup of kindergarten. Doing so will give them great experience and ideas about learning in school.

Preschool or pre-k is not only there to prepare the child for the next level. Kids below five years of age already have needs and abilities. It is excellent not to ignore these, but instead, nurture them to develop their character and skills.

Moreover, skipping a crucial stage in child development may also bring problems later on. For example, a young one finds it hard to enjoy learning in the computer labs. Perhaps, he or she still needs to be familiar with numbers or letters.

In all these concerns, it helps if parents have partners in early childhood care and education. An example of this is a preschool teacher.

Difference and similar in Pre-K and preschool

Probably another confusing part in preschool and pre-K is the age of a child. How old does one have to be to enroll in preschool and pre-K?

The general practice is four to five-year-old kids are for pre-k, while it is two and a half to four years old for preschool. However, given the various reasons that affect a child’s readability, a parent or guardian can decide to hold the schooling. Conceivably, a child needs more potty-training or adjustment to be alone in school.

Another concern is a child’s birthday. If it falls after the admission period or in the first few months of the school year, the toddler may younger for the required age. In effect, there are pre-k students who are four to six years old or preschoolers who are about four to five years old. Apart from age, it is equally crucial to consider the pace or situation of a child.

What’s in the two?

Preschool. It serves as a child’s debut in schooling and fun learning. At Rainbow Preschool, there are classes for two and three years old. Each one provides age-appropriate activities that nurture development and explore various learning vehicles.

The Rainbow’s classroom for two years old introduces numbers and counting, basic safety skills, and more. Typically, kids are doing art projects or outdoor play that allows them to explore and learn.

The classroom for three years old focuses on developing responsible learners in children. Some exercises children encounter are hands-on math, writing activities, and small or big group tasks.

Pre-K. As its name suggests, pre-kindergarten is like setting the stage for kindergarten. The students experience structural activities, which help them develop various skills like communication and problem-solving.
