How many hours a day in a preschool?

Preschool is where pupils meet their second parents and siblings in learning. It exposes them to structured activities that support developing their skills and characters. To be able to enjoy all these, a child needs to attend a preschool for hours. Do you have any idea how long it takes in a day?

The Preschoolers’ time

Preschools in the US typically offer programs that run half-day or about four hours. However, it can also be six to seven hours or a full-day schedule.

In half-day or part-time options, parents can choose whether their children go to preschool in the morning or afternoon. The usual and most preferred is in the morning.

On the other hand, the number of days in the school per week varies. Parents can choose to make it two or three days. Although, it is possible to make it five times a week.

Half-day or full-day?

The choices in how many hours a child learning in preschool give helpful for parents and toddlers. The morning session is better if the student typically feels sleepy in the afternoon. The half-day option also makes sense in balancing school time and family bonding. It is the same in choosing two or three days of session per week.

The full-time options also offer benefits for children. According to a study in the Journal of the American, entitled “Association of a Full-Day versus Part-Day Preschool Intervention with School Readiness, Attendance, and Parent Involvement,” full-day schooling results in a higher percentage of social-emotional development, physical health, language, and math. A part of the study also suggested that a long time in preschool is the key to a child’s readiness skills in schooling.

Other Factors to Consider

Schooling for longer or lesser hours also involves other elements like the following:

Child’s personality. Each child has a sense of individuality even at their tender age. Some exhibit they are a people person and ready for long hours in preschool. Meanwhile, other toddlers show that they can do it but for less time. Perhaps, they are still more relaxed being with their siblings. It is also best to notice a young one’s mood, attention span, and flexibility.

Parent’s time. Another factor is the arrangement in the home. Maybe it is better to choose the half-day and afternoon program because of a parent’s part-time schedule. Full-day is ideal if the mother and father have daytime jobs.

Preschool’s Quality. Whether it is half-day or full-day, the quality of education and child care in a preschool is pivotal to achieve a positive outcome. A caring and skilled teacher can make a child feel comfortable. Moreover, the school environment is also imperative to keep them safe and healthy in the center. It is indeed likable if it has educational tools and facilities that engage children to do various activities, full-day or not.
